Phase 2.1

If you’ve been following along…

You may have noticed that last year we entered what we called Phase 2. Initially our plan was to move our store to a new platform that would reduce fees and reduce costs, thus reducing prices for our community. While this all sounded great, it didn’t turn out as planned. Which is why Phase 2.1 (this website) has commenced.

In early July 2022, our previous website went down. This is normal, websites go down from time to time for a few minutes. However, this time, it was different. It didn’t come back.

We logged into the backend, everything seemed fine. Contacted customer server for our hosting provider and after 3.5hrs on call with them sifting through our server, they finally found the problem. One of our theme files had become corrupt, causing our entire database to become unreadable, and that caused the entire site and all of it’s assets to go haywire.

No big deal right? Just roll back to one of our recent backups. Well unfortunately the corruption file was still present in our last few backups, it was there remaining dormant until one plugin auto-updated and lit the fuse. Eventually, the resolution was to admit defeat, scrap the site, and move back to a more stable platform that doesn’t rely one dozens of plugins and add-ons that conflict with one another as they are competing to update for compatibility, leaving them open to vulnerability. No more of that.

Today, this site, is on Squarespace. Back to where it all started. This time with new tools and more control through the top tier version which will allows us to not only sell without transaction fees from Squarespace, but this will also allow us to remove the need for the Patreon account that many of you had been graciously donating to, for the Ghost & Shadow Podcast initiatives.
